Willie James Mabon (1925-1985) was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He moved to Chicago in 1942.

Willie Mabon first recorded for the Chicago based Aristocrat Records and later for its successor Chess Records. His 1952 recording I Don’t Know, recorded for Chess Records, reached No. 1 on the R&B charts. He had another R&B No. 1 recording in 1953 with I’m Mad, also recorded for Chess Records.

Willie Mabon also made the first recording of Willie Dixon’s classic Seventh Son.
